“I want to start riding again mummy”
It was the first sunny non rainy day that we had had for ages and Maisie has decided that she would like to start to ride again. I am all for it – hopefully the hat, kids jodhpurs, boots and gloves all still fit.
We book a lesson with Felicity and off we go. It rains, in fact it doesn’t just rain, it pours, then it hails!!!
I smile encouragingly over the fence as they squelch by hoping she can see my thumbs up through the downpour. In my mind I was pondering over indoor sports, perhaps ones that don’t require any specialised clothing or kit, I was trying not to think about the rain that was now seeping into my bra.
After we had put the pony away and got in the car Maisie announced that she absolutely loved it and could she go next week.
“What about the rain?”
“Honestly Mummy, you don’t notice it when you are up there, it was brilliant”.
Ah well it seems as though my fair weather rider is no more!
This is a photo of me in 1987, I really miss it, not sure I am cut out to stand the other side of the fence noticing the rain……
